Pastor Bass Mitchell
The Reverend Bass Mitchell was born and grew up in North Carolina. His mother was a nurse and father a carpenter. He has four siblings. Around the age of 16, he felt a call to full-time ministry. He proceeded to get his formal education at Mount Olive College, Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College), Florida State University, and did graduate studies at Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest and Duke University Divinity School.
Pastor Bass or Pastor B, as he likes to be called, has 46 years experience as a pastor. He also is a writer, having authored several books and numerous articles for various publications. He has also written curriculum materials for the United Methodist Publishing House. He enjoys teaching and storytelling.
Pastor Bass is married and has two grown, married children, along with one grandson. He adds, ”We have one cat.”
Pastor B has served several United Methodist Churches in the Virginian Conference over the last 26 years. He was appointed to Stephens City UMC in July of 2020.

David Renner - Music Director
Music Director
David has served as the director of music and choir director for many years. He has been instrumental in acquiring instruments and employing a variety of professional musical ensembles to enhance our worship.
David holds a BS in Political Science from James Madison University and a Church Music Institute Certificate from Shenandoah University Conservatory of Music . He is also a member of the Winchester Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
Jacquetta Owen - Bell Director

After retiring from teaching, Jacquetta has stayed busy helping kids and adults learn about music, hand bells, sewing, cooking and Bible school. She developed the hand bell program for all age groups and STEM camps for elementary age kids to encourage problem solving and creativity. Believing in the value of learning life concepts through rhythm and rhyme, she also runs the music programs for the church Daycare and Preschool. She and Pala plan and prepare the Wednesday nights meals, emphasizing healthy, home- cooked and delicious food choices. In order to promote community involvement, she has organized yard parties, bake sales, Trunk or Treat, social events, guitar lessons, and sewing with seniors events. In her spare time, she also teaches the sewing classes at Hobby Lobby and manages the local farm market during growing
season with organically grown produce.
Janet Moore - Administrative Assistant
Administrative Assistant
Janet Moore has been working for Stephens City UMC since 2005. She is an Administrative Assistant with decades of experience in her career. She was born and raised in Vienna Virginia. She and her husband, John moved to Stephens City in 1988 and have been Frederick County residents since. They have three grown children and two grandchildren. Janet enjoys working with the SCUMC staff and congregants greatly and feels her position is a ministry, not just a job. She also enjoys traveling, writing, playing with her grandchildren and just spending time with her family.
