Lunch Bunch
The next lunch bunch gathering will be Wednesday, November 19th, 11:30am at the Butcher Block in Stephens City. Anyone who might enjoy some fellowship and good food with other nice people is invited. There is no other agenda for the gathering. Everyone is responsible for the cost of her/his own meal. The Butcher Block very kindly reserves space for the lunch bunch so we need to give them a head count a day ahead of the gathering. Please let us know you are planning to attend by phoning Kathryn Koerner at 540-869-2575 or by e-mail to Waverly Reames at wgreames@aol.com. Don't miss the fellowship, fun, and good food.

Koinonia School Class
The Koinonia School Class will be doing an Advent Lesson Series by Mike Slaughter titled " A Different Kind of Christmas" based on his book "Christmas Is Not Your Birthday"? The series will last 5 weeks and we will start on Sunday, November 23rd at 9:45 in Room 102. The last Sunday of the series will be December 21st. Rick Taliaferro will be leading the class for this series.

MAMA Project
The MAMA initials stand for Middletown Area Mission Project. The project benefits children in the Middletown Elementary School. Seven local churches help to supply 30 children, grades K-5 with food for the weekend. The combined weight of the food in each bag must weigh no more than 6lbs as it will be carried home in a backpack. During November and December our church along with others will be putting together food boxes. In both months we will complete two boxes. We will not need a ham or turkey, but we will be collecting food stuffs suitable for the holidays. If you are interested in helping, please sign-up on the designated sheet outside of the church office.

The Emergency Fund
The Mission Budget for SCUMC lists $2,300 to be used for emergency assistance. Occasionally someone designates additional money that they have given to also be available. Generally those who call the church seeking aid need assistance to pay utility bills or rent. Currently there are no funds in the emergency account. The criteria for helping anyone who calls the church is the availability of money in the account. Also there has to be proof of the legitimacy of the need. Further, a person or family can be helped only twice in one year and that money is sent by the church treasurer directly to those requiring the payment. Regardless of the client's debt only $100 is the typical allowable funding from the Emergency Fund.

Food Pantry Holiday Request
With Thanksgiving and Christmas quickly approaching we'd like to start planning for them at the food pantry. Items needed during the month of November are boxed mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, canned hams, and pumpkin pie mix. Realize that families can only come once a month, so the ones that come at the beginning of the month are getting their Thanksgiving or Christmas food items then also. Therefore, we need to begin receiving them by the first Tuesday of November and continuing through the month. More information can be found in the newsletter.

Food Pantry Volunteer needed
Food Pantry Volunteer needed - We could use a volunteer for the evening shift to help with paperwork. This position would only be once every other month beginning in December. The first Tuesday of the month from 6:15-7:30. Contact Cathy Ritter if you can do! 869-5498 or timcathyritter@gmail.com.

Community Thanksgiving Service
This year's Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 25th at 7:00 p.m. Our own Pastor Bob Gochenour will be delivering the message. Invite a friend to attend with you as we the people of Stephens City gather to praise God and render our thanks for His many blessings.

WATTS News
Stephens City United Methodist Church will host Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter (WATTS) clients Monday, December 15 to Monday, December 22. As you know this takes many servants from setup, intake each evening, medical volunteers, meal preparation, cleaning, etc. If you are interested in serving on the lead team, we will meet Monday, October 27 at 7pm in Room 102 to get organized.

WATTS Donations
The WATTS Team is asking for donations of the following for the 35 homeless men and women who will be our guests from December 15th through the 22nd. We would like to bless them with the following items: new mens' and womens' white underwear sizes small to 2X and white socks. The following toiletry items are also needed: pads & tampons, shaving cream, razors, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste. You may place them in the hall where the food pantry items are left. We'd like to have enough underwear and socks for everybody to receive a pair. Updates on needed items will be provided. Anything that isn't used for WATTS will be donated to the food pantry.

Hunters for the Hungry
It is that time of year again when hunters take to the woods in pursuit of the elusive whitetail deer. Hunters for the Hungry have provided over 22 million 4oz servings of meat since 1991. In the last month 36,776 lbs of meat have been donated toward our 2014 goal of 370,000lbs. The current fee for processing is $45.oo and this provides 50lbs of lean meat to people in need. If you would like to contribute to this worthy cause, please mark you check "Hunters for the Hungry". For more information call John Petrie, Sr. at 869-0187.

Fred Fonville has a few copies of the study guide left and there is also a book by the same title.
